Polish trout farming – trends, challenges and prospects

The XLVIII Training – Conference for Salmonid Fish Farmers and Technological Aquaculture Trade Fair, held on 12-13 October in Gdynia, is an annual industry event providing an excellent opportunity to learn about the current challenges facing Polish trout farming. This year, it was notable for the large number of companies offering fish diagnostic tests, which on the one hand demonstrates the importance of the sector, but also draws attention to the presence of fish diseases. Given the EU policy to significantly reduce the use of antibiotics, it is necessary to develop alternative antimicrobial agents such as enzybiotics. In the SafeFoodCrtl project, we are working on one such solution – ruckerin, an enzyme that specifically eliminates the bacteria Yersina ruckeri, the culprit of yersiniosis.
