Norway is well known as the biggest producer of Atlantic salmon in the world; however, less known of its educational program established to teach the general public about Atlantic salmon behaviour and farming.
Several educational centres have been established nationwide where visitors can learn about the salmon industry’s past, presence and future and see live fish.
We visited one of the centres near Trondheim and saw how a modern salmon fish farm is run. Our guides shared their knowledge and openly discussed the possibilities and challenges of the fish farming industry. This was an excellent opportunity to learn from people who work with salmon what is vital to achieving a sustainable industry geared up for the future.
