MMRI team members were involved in the “Biologist Night” event at the University of Warsaw on 12 January 2024. Together with other scientists from the Biology Department at UW, we have shared our knowledge about new protein engineering, purification, and activity tests with the general public. The visitors were mainly recruited young people passionate about science who would like to see more than in regular biology lessons. On our workshop stand, we have shown plates with various bacterial species and different life cycle stages of our experimental objects – zebrafish (Danio rerio) and the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella). We have also demonstrated protein purification techniques, including chromatography. Visitors could also take their skin imprints on ready-made plates to take home and see what sort of bacteria would grow on them. Bacterial cartoon tattoos were the most popular, though.
